Saturday, 9. August Geneva - Seyssinet

Length of Stage 193 km
Altitude to climb 1'972 m

Wunderlistrasse 6:10 a.m. - we are ready to leave. Ten minutes later we arrive at the main station to board the train to Geneva, and only three hours later, after an excellent breakfast, we get into the bike shoes in front of the „Gare Centrale". We already know how to best get out of the City - direction Salève - shall we climb up again? But we decide against it, bike along the Mountain and collect altitude meters instead. We bike on small roads with almost no traffic and cross the Col de la Croix, which is followed by a long descent to Frangy. Here we don’t get the right road directly, which means we have a steep hill as a detour. We don’t mind, we are on vacation and reach Seyssel in time for lunch. On a beautiful terrace overlooking the Rhône we enjoy our break. We travel on along the River, pass a beautiful lake and are in no time in Yenne. Here we have to climb up an unexpected hill, call it Regalo and continue on a little street to Le Pont Beauvoisin. The Bidons get a refill before we bike through a nice part of the National Park of Chartreuse, by means of 500 Meters uphill. On Top the effort is well rewarded with a magnificent view in the Massiv Chartreuse. The next rest we enjoy in St. Laurent du Pont where our bike computers tell us we have only 20 kilometers more to go while the map reads 50 km. We bike on, over the Col de la Placette and now have a very long descent into the Isere valley: will we reach our destination? Another detour makes the decision for us: near Grenoble (Seyssinet) we have to look for a sleeping place, and for dinner we eat pizza from the counter. It was a gorgeous day, but one should know how to calculate distances.
